Out and About

Song Lyric of the Day:

On an island in the sun / We’ll be playing and having fun / And it makes me feel so fine / I can’t control my brain

Weezer / “Island in the Sun”

10:20PM.

Today was a long day. Fun, but long. I’m used to sleeping in on Saturday mornings, but I had promised Rich since we missed yoga Thursday night we’d go today. So we were up at 8 to go to 8:30 yoga at a nearby church. After that, I was already too awake to try going back to sleep, so we made a list of things we wanted/needed to do, and set out.

We mostly ran errands today, but the highlight of running around was our visit to d’ART Center in downtown Norfolk. It’s basically a place where about 30 artists each have their own studio space, practice their craft, and sell their paintings, jewelry, sculpture–whatever their medium might be. Very cool place. It really showed me how much Rich needs a usable studio someday. Maybe our next house will have the room for one.

By the time we got home, we both had splitting headaches and realized we would need naps if we were going to be up to going out for dinner. We went to The Melting Pot for a belated birthday celebration for Joan at 6:30. Sharon rode over with us, and we met some of Joan’s other friends for the first time tonight (Mary, Brenda, and Jim). We had a great evening with great food, despite a somewhat cranky, mumbly waiter. For those of you who haven’t been there, it’s a fondue restaurant, so you get to cook your own food. Be sure to put aside a few hours; we were there for three hours tonight.

Now we’re home and I’m almost ready for bed. I had wanted to stay up to see The Killers perform on Satuday Night Live (since I missed their concert at The NorVa last year), but I might just end up taping it and watching it tomorrow. We’ll see how long I can stay awake…
