I hope you’ve had a fun, safe Independence Day. My Independence Day: slept in, swam at Caren’s pool, lunch at Five Guys Burgers, dinner at Mom and Dad’s with my sisters, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and best friend. Not a bad way to spend my day. Of course, now I’m trying (and failing) to console our dogs. Stupid fireworks.

In honor of the efforts put forth by the men and women who are bravely and selflessly serving our country — and because other than Relay for Life I don’t contribute much to society — I’ve picked a soldier on AnySoldier.com to send care packages to. It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while now, so I went ahead and requested a soldier’s address. The way the program works: I’ll put together care packages based on what my contact soldier requests or says his unit needs; once he receives what I send, items will be distributed first to those soldiers who get little or no mail. I can’t wait to go shopping for them this weekend.
On the 4th we ate a lot and then went to the mall. Then at home there were fireworks right outside our door. Glad it’s been a slow week at the shops and people are generally happy!
