Busy Bee

Song Lyric of the Day:

And we don’t know just where our bones will rest / To dust I guess / Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below / The street heats the urgency of now / As you see there’s no one around

Smashing Pumpkins / “1979”

The problem with not updating on a daily basis is where to begin once you start again. Let’s see…Thursday and Friday were uneventful days at work, but they went quickly. Friday night we had dinner at Kathy and Christian‘s house, a last hurrah before their baby girl, Cayce, arrives later this month. Kathy makes pregnancy look very stylish indeed. David and Dawn were also there with their baby girl, Meridian, who is so well-behaved other babies should see here as a role model. It was great seeing everyone, and we do not do it nearly often enough. Of course, being social took it out of me and Rich as we were exhausted when we got home at midnight. We guess that’s part of getting older.

Earlier Friday night I’d spoken with our friend, Noah, about the casting call on Saturday for “War of the Worlds.” Thanks to his encouragement (and Vanessa’s, and Kathy’s, and Lee’s, and Rich’s…) I ended up going to Lexington yesterday for the casting call. It was quite a drive (7 1/2 hours round trip), but as Rich put it, it’s for a chance to be in a big Steven Spielberg movie. So we’ll see if I get a call back this week.

Today we slept in, but not as late as we usually sleep in on Sundays. Caleb did very well last night. We did not baby gate our bedroom door, and, sure enough, he slept soundly through the night on “his” bed in my office. He didn’t even wake up to chase the cats, which was great. Snoops still sleeps through the night like the pro that she is.

After working out and taking the poochies for a walk, Rich and I started decorating the house for Christmas. We put the tree up and put the lights and star on it. We put various decorations around the house and put lights up outside. So I’m really happy with the way the house looks right now. Tomorrow night we’ll probably finish the tree by putting the ornaments on. We usually leave the tree bare-ish for a day or so to let the cats get it out of their systems. Here’s hoping that the passage of another year has mellowed them a little bit more.

After running about six loads of laundry through the wash, I made red rice and beans to go with ranch burgers for dinner. Then Rich and I watched “The Simpsons” (not their funniest episode) and “Arrested Development.” We agreed that tonight’s episode, “Good Grief,” was the funniest of the season so far. And that’s saying something, since AD has to be the funniest show on TV right now. The dialogue is always great, the physical comedy very inspired, and the running gags sublime. I would love to meet Mitchell Hurwitz, the show’s creator, to personally thank him for this brilliant show and for introducing Tony Hale to the world. Here’s hoping the whole cast gets recognized with a SAG award next year for best ensemble. Now if they’d only hold a local casting call for even the smallest walk-on part…

That Christopher Radko site is very cool. I scoured the internet for a good ornament site weeks ago and I’m surprised I didn’t come across this one. I guess I didn’t “google” it right.

Let us know what happens with the Steven Spielberg gig!
