Dawn of the Boobah

Song Lyric of the Day:

And if I die before I learn to speak / Can money pay for all the days I lived awake / But half asleep?

Primitive Radio Gods / “Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand”

3:23PM. Almost time to go home for Christmas! I only need to buy two more gifts, and then I’m done shopping. Fortunately, they are items I can pick up in Knoxville pretty easily, so I’ll just get them there.

Our weekend was very busy, which is why I was unable to finish shopping as I’d hoped. However, it was totally worth it. Friday night we polished off most of the fantastic enchiladas Lee made for us. He’d brought some in for our last cube holiday feast and made extra for us to take home. Speaking of the holiday feast, I’m happy to report my red rice and beans passed the ultimate litmus test—I got the a-ok from a fellow Puerto Rican, Johnny B. I have been validated.

Saturday we bought a Boobah as our gag gift for a Christmas party one of Rich’s coworkers was throwing that night. Turns out that not only is the Boobah great for toddlers, it’s also great for 2-year old pit bulls–Caleb lucked out in that we ended up getting our own gag gift back. After the Christmas party (where I met some really nice people) we went on to Sharon’s house for her graduation party. It was really great to see how happy Sharon was at finally graduating and getting her teaching degree from Old Dominion University. I don’t think she can possibly know how proud of her we are.

Sunday we went to the graduation at ODU. It was standing-room only chaos. After about a half hour of wandering around trying to find a place to stand, we spotted Sharon’s family and friends across the arena and made our way over. After watching Sharon get her diploma (yay!) we headed out for a quick lunch. Then it was home to check on the dogs and back out to Dave and Dawn’s house for dinner and a gift exchange. I have to say, their daughter, Meridian, is absolutely adorable. She’s all blue-eyed smiles. And her parents aren’t too shabby, either. I got a great book about Hollywood (surprise) and Rich got some Kava Kava/Ginseng. Meridian was more interested in the paper in which her presents were wrapped than the toys contained therein.

The work week has passed by incredibly slow, basically because I have already mentally checked out for the holidays. I’m also excited about tonight, as Rich and I are celebrating our own Christmas here. We’re going to open most of our presents, leaving a couple of small ones to take home and open at our parents’ houses. I can’t wait to see his face when he sees what I’ve gotten him. And the pets are going to make out like bandits, as well. Maybe we’ll even buy Caleb another Boobah, since his beloved Zumbah died. Apparently, it’s just not meant to be squeezed and made to say “Boobah” in its weird singsongy voice nonstop for two days straight. So if he plays his cards right, a new Zumbah may soon find its way to him.

Ummm, “Dawn of the BoomBah”…?! Not sure exactly what you’re trying to say, unless of course you are referring to the grace, elegance, and enchanting charm of said boombah.

    Dawn-

My original blog title was “Dawn, Elegant Mother of Meridian, Wife to David, Hosted a Fantabulout Evening at Their Home/Birth of Caleb’s Boobah Obsession.” So, you see, I had to condense it a little. Hence, “Dawn of the Boobah.” 🙂
