Holiday Blue

Song Lyric of the Day:

But I am married to your charms and grace / I just go crazy like the good old days / You make me want to pick up a guitar / And celebrate the myriad ways that I love you

Interpol
/ “Slow Hands”

Rich scored some serious good hubby points today. He’s really been racking them up lately, but tonight he brought me a Zero’s sub, orange Tic Tacs, and some flowers, and called my parents to tell them to call me and say hi. This on top of cleaning the kitchen, tidying up the bedroom, and organizing his office. I had a minor holiday stress-induced meltdown this afternoon, compounded by a general feeling of ickiness and my deviled egg hangover (too much holiday food at the office). He succeeded in bringing a smile to my face. There were even presents for me under the tree, wrapped quite nicely, I might add (he has learned from the best, after all). In addition to talking to Mom and Dad, I talked to Vanessa, Samantha, Sharon, and Brent. Busy phone night.

Then I indulged in watching the teaser trailer for “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Honestly–I would watch Johnny Depp in a film about drying paint. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say I’m probably going to like this version as much as the 1971 Gene Wilder classic “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” I’ve enjoyed all Johnny Depp-Tim Burton collaborations so far, with “Ed Wood” being my favorite up till now (“Pull the string! Pull the string!“). I think between the two of them, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will really embody the spirit and whimsy of Roald Dahl‘s children’s book. Not to mention the weirdness. I still think the original movie is fantastic–it’s one of those movies that I just have to watch every time I come across it on TV. Oh, to have been a kid running around that factory…

In closing tonight, let me say that “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” is probably the funniest movie I’ve seen this year. Our Netflix copy finally arrived yesterday, and I was laughing so hard I was almost crying. Definitely worth the wait. Rich and I agree–it’s one we want to own.

I just finished reading Roald Dahl’s, James and the Giant Peach to the kids. Jack recently read the Fantastic Mr Fox and some other short books by the author. He loves them!! They are so silly and twisted. He has always been one of my favorites growing up.

I am in complete agreement that Johnny Depp is going to do an awesome job as Willie Wonka. One of my favorite Depp movies is Once Upon a Time in New Mexico…of course, I am secretly in love with Antonio Banderas so that movie is like ice cream to me. hehe.
