How great was it to have a new episode of “Lost” after three weeks of repeats? And for it to be a John Locke-centric episode, no less. We already knew from an earlier episode, “Walkabout,” that Locke grew up in the foster care system, worked at a box company (owned by millionaire Hurley maybe?), and used to be paralyzed. In last night’s episode we discovered that he’d been paralyzed for a total of 4 years prior to the plane crash; we still don’t know how he was injured, though. We saw how his birth parents found him and selfishly, horribly used him. Of course, as is typical on “Lost,” some questions were answered while others were raised. Did Locke knowingly lead Boone on by having him get into that crashed charter plane they found, after having seen a bloody, injured Boone in a dream? How exactly did Locke become paralyzed? Will recovering-addict Charlie find the heroin in the crashed plane?

Rich and I think it’s a real testament to the quality of this show’s writing that the story can be so involving that we lose track of time; at one point, we figured so much had happened already that the show would be over in a few minutes. We were both delighted to realize we still had another half hour of mysteries, revelations, and laughs to go. Jack’s humiliating sexual history questions for Sawyer before diagnosing him with far-sightedness? Shows that the good doctor does indeed have a sense of humor. Hurley’s Harry Potter one-liner regarding Sawyer’s cobbled-together glasses? Classic. Can’t wait for the season’s remaining new episodes.
