How great was this TV season?

Lost” is definitely my favorite new drama of the year. Even while not quite giving up answers to the show’s central mysteries in the finale, I have no complaints about this show other than I couldn’t watch the entire season in one week. My favorite new dramedy is “Desperate Housewives.” While some episodes were uneven, with characters behaving completely out of character at times, DH is still a great, over the top satire about the day to day happenings in suburbia. FX had another great season of “Nip/Tuck.” How creepy was the finale’s last shot? Poor Dr. Troy…

For my money, “Arrested Development” is still the funniest show on TV. The second year was a bit more uneven than the first, but we still got instantly classic episodes like “Good Grief” and “Afternoon Delight.” “Family Guy” came back with a vengeance; the show hasn’t missed a beat in the years it’s been off the air. The prologue with Peter listing every show Fox launched and subsequently cancelled after having cancelled FG was priceless. And pointed.

CSI” had a great year, culminating in an outstanding finale, “Grave Danger,” directed by Quentin Tarantino, a fan of the show since the beginning. “Without a Trace” also had an excellent season, with the highlight being the episode “Off the Tracks.” It didn’t hurt that the episode was a great showcase for my fantasy second husband. (FYI–Rich’s fantasy second wife is Angelina Jolie. So there. I can have my own fantasy spouse).

I could go on about what else I enjoyed on TV this past season, but instead I’ll look forward to what’s on this summer.

I’d like to catch “Veronica Mars” as its first season repeats this summer. I hope to catch “Cold Case” in repeats, as well.Rescue Me” will be back on FX, no doubt crossing every line imaginable. “Nip/Tuck” returns in September, not a moment too soon. We’ll see if anything else grabs my interest.

Don’t worry. I promise I’ll read in addition to watching TV. I can’t let my brain completely rot, now can I?
