Walking Tall on Friday the 13th (Ch-ch-ch-ch-ha-ha-ha)

Song Lyric of the Day:

But I would walk 500 miles / And I would walk 500 more

Proclaimers / “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”

3:32PM.
Well, tonight’s the big night– Relay for Life 2005 in Chesapeake, VA. I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you to all my friends, coworkers, associates, and, especially, my family for helping me not only reach but significantly surpass my goal of $500. You can check out my progress here. Remember–it’s still not too late to donate!

The walk officially starts at 7PM with cancer survivors walking the first lap. The rest of us join in on the second lap. And then we keep on walking until 7AM. The goal is to always have someone from your team (mine is the Purple People Cancer Eaters) representing you on the track. I think I walked between 12 and 15 miles last year, which is why I ended up with bursitis in my right hip (see how committed I am?). This year I have invested in a pedometer to track what I walk, and will closely listen to my hip if it decides to talk to me.

Because I’m heading out shortly to help my intrepid team leader and close friend, Sharon, set up our site on the track, I do not have more time to update. But once I am home again and have had at least a short recovery nap, I will recap my Farewell Virginia Friends Tour 2005 get togethers with Nancy, Ann, and Lee Ann, and with Mae. I will also recap tonight’s walk.

Before I go, I want to say HAPPY 33rd ANNIVERSARY to my parents, Santiago and Lupe. They have shown me that while a marriage takes work, a strong foundation of love and friendship is the glue that holds a marriage together. They’ve also shown me that a healthy dose of mischief, when used in moderation, can make things fun. It certainly makes them memorable.

So to Mom and Dad I say I love you with all my heart, and thank you for being my wonderful parents. I’ll be home for good on Sunday!
