Word to My Motha

Song Lyric of the Day:

I say love it is a flower / And you it’s only seed

Bette Midler / “The Rose”

Happy Mother’s Day, Ma!

My mom, Lupe, has been the best mother I could have hoped for throughout my entire life. She has been a caregiver, nurturer, enforcer, and confidante, among many other things. First and foremost, however, she has always been one of my best friends.

It is because of her that I am in Virginia right now instead of being at home in Tennessee with her this Mother’s Day. I am very proud to say that she is an almost 4-year breast cancer survivor, and to honor that I am for the second year in a row participating in the American Cancer Society‘s Relay for Life in Chesapeake this Friday through Saturday (May 13-May 14). So while I will still give her a kick-a$$ present when I get home for good (!) this Sunday, my true gift to her is that I am walking in her honor, and with much love, to raise money that will be used to someday find a cure for cancer. I look forward to many more Mother’s Days with her.

So if you haven’t already donated, see the link in the top-right hand corner of my blog page. Many, many thanks to those of you who have donated already. You have helped me achieve and surpass my goal already your generosity and kindness. It truly is amazing how many peoples’ lives are touched by cancer. Someday, hopefully that will not be the case.

And Happy Mother’s Day to Momma Carol! I can not forget to thank my wonderful mother-in-law for being such a terrific second mother to me. From day one, she has embraced me into her family and made me always feel welcome. And for that I thank her.

Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll write something nice for you on Father’s Day.

We really do have the best mother, EVER, don’t we!? I hope someday I will be as great of a mother as she has been to us.

PS Happy Mothers Day to you Pattie. Your cats and dogs ( and mine as well ) are as much trouble as kids!!!!!
