Will Emmy Get It Right? Doubtful

Ah, the Emmy nominations are going to be announced in the morning. Will there be new blood among the nominees? Heads up — lots of links coming up. Lots.

I would be a happy TV addict indeed if John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox, NBC‘s “Scrubs“) finally got nominated. And his castmates, Zach Braff and Judy Reyes, too.

How about Denis Leary from FX‘s “Rescue Me?” I have always been a fan of his stand up, but I never expected him to have great dramatic acting chops, as well. Speaking of FX, Julian McMahon, Dylan Walsh, Famke Janssen, and Joely Richardson of “Nip/Tuck” are all deserving.

ABC should get nods for Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber, and Ron Rifkin on “Alias.” “Desperate Housewives” really shone due to Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffman. The ensemble cast of “Lost” had standouts: Matthew Fox, Daniel Dae Kim, Naveen Andrews, Terry O’Quinn, and Dominic Monaghan.

Over on Fox, Tony Hale (Buster, “Arrested Development“) earning a nomination would really make my day. His castmates all deserve nominations, too, particularly Jason Bateman (who carries the show), Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor (comedy inspired), and Will Arnett. If only the Emmys gave an ensemble cast award, a la the SAG Awards

CBS deserves nominations for “Without a Trace,” including for cast members Anthony LaPaglia, Poppy Montgomery, and my very own fantasy second husband, Enrique Murciano. George Eads more than redeemed himself with a stellar year on “CSI,” helped along by a kick-a$$ finale. Kathryn Morris on “Cold Case” is a real find.

I am even rooting for actors on shows I didn’t get to or couldn’t watch throughout the season: Lauren Graham on “Gilmore Girls,” Michael Chiklis and Glenn Close on “The Shield,” Kiefer Sutherland, Carlos Bernard, and Shoreh Aghdashloo of “24.”

If this blog entry wasn’t already so long and link-heavy, I would go on. Ah, to be a member of the Emmy voting board. I’d definitely nominate some new blood.

I am crossing my fingers and toes that the usual, tired, same old suspects won’t get nominated. Therefore, I won’t go into my usual diatribe about “Will & Grace,” among others. Tomorrow may be another story…
