Missing Out on Black Friday

Song Lyric of the Day:

There’s something wrong with the world today / I don’t know what it is / Something’s wrong with our eyes / We’re seeing things in a different way / And God knows it ain’t His / It sure ain’t no surprise

Aerosmith / “Livin’ on the Edge”

11:56AM.
Another year, another day-after-Thanksgiving not spent shopping. I’ve pretty much missed out on it every year for the last five years, at least; I blamed it on being too tired from driving the nine hours from Virginia to Tennessee. I had planned on going this year, but Rich and I stayed up later than we should have, considering the sales started at 5 and 6AM. Also, my sister, Vanessa, didn’t call me last night like she said she would to let me know her and Mom’s game plan for this morning.

As it is, any planning would have been for naught since I was exiled to the guest bedroom in the wee, wee hours of this morning. I’m still sick (going on an unwanted personal record here) and I was so congested overnight my labored breathing was keeping Rich awake. So I dragged myself to the guest bedroom where it took me another two hours to get comfortable enough to doze off again. Here’s hoping the prescriptions Dr. Tamara called in for me last night do the trick.

9:57PM.
Several hours spent on the couch, plus some Nasacort (God bless you, Tamara!), Robitussin, and Claritin doses later, I feel thismuch better. Which is good, since I really would like to start my Christmas shopping tomorrow. Tomorrow’s a big social day, anyway. Jonathan and Curry are hosting a Thanksgiving get together at 3PM and my family’s having an early birthday party for Mom tomorrow night at 7PM. So I need to feel much better by tomorrow. Here’s hoping.

All told, I was off the couch for a total of no more than 30 minutes today. I was either playing Pac-Man and Galaga on the PS2 again, napping, watching TV, napping, or watching TV with Rich. My cats Belle and Yum Yum particularly enjoyed having their mommy laid up on the couch– captive quality time. Caleb, on the other hand, has been moping all day since he likes to sleep on that couch and there wasn’t any room for him. He did manage to amuse us earlier tonight, though, when a potato fell on the floor and he grabbed it and ran. Nothing like a potato-loving pit bull for a laugh. He ate it much like Chris Kattan‘s Mr. Peepers character on Saturday Night Live ate apples–basically, he made a huge mess. Caleb ended up playing keep away with Snoops, who also loves veggies. We ended up sending them outside to finish their messy potato somewhere besides the living room floor.

That’s about it. Back to the couch for me.
