I find it very, very easy to be true / I find myself alone when each day is through / Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a fool for you / Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I felt well enough today to do some Christmas shopping with Rich early in the day. We started out at Kohl’s followed by Target, Michael’s, and American Signature Furniture (the futon I wanted was sold out), and Lowe’s. We got some really good deals on gifts, Christmas decorations, and personal and home necessities.

Then it was off to Cracker Barrel to meet Jonathan, Curry, Tamara, Benjamin, Shay, John, Laura, Finley, and Susannah for lunch. I still don’t have much of an appetite and can’t taste a whole lot, but I did manage to eat most of my Chicken Fried Chicken. We hung out and talked a bit after finishing our meal and then got to meet John and Laura’s poochon, Brutus. Rich and I then came home for about an hour before heading out to dinner at El Mezcal to celebrate Mom’s birthday.

I have to say, of all the insanely funny family dinners we’ve had, tonight is now at the top of that long, very illustrious list. Ranging from Dad’s Michael Jackson impression with the remaining white lining of his gloves (courtesy of his granddog, Spike) to Mom’s facial expressions in photos to my being almost transparent in photos to Rich’s impression of me, all we did was laugh. We were all laughing so loudly and often that at one point I realized I’d forgotten we weren’t the only diners in the restaurant. Mom and Shawn (whose birthday is also this Tuesday) got sombreroed® and photographed by the waitstaff. I got a bit woozy off of one strawberry daiquiri since I’ve eaten very little over the last few days, Mom got a bit buzzed off her shared jumbo margarita with Vanessa, and Dad seemed to magically feel the effects from our drinking. Samantha, Ken, Tamara, Brent, and Rich were also there, laughing it up with us.

Once we finished dinner and were in the parking lot getting ready to part ways for the night, Rich ended up outing me when Dad told Vanessa that Caddyshack is required viewing–he blabbed that I do a dead-on gopher dance. So I ended up doing the gopher dance for my entire family, right there in the parking lot. Ken even had me do it again so he could record it on his videophone. In retrospect, that may not have been my wisest move.

Rich and I came home to find an impressive mess on the living room floor: Caleb went to town while we were at dinner, destroying magazines, a PS2 game case (my Namco Museum!), a box of tissues, and a box of long matches. He’s now doing hard time in his crate along with the bag of trash he created as a reminder of what he did wrong.

Now I’m ready to take another dose of Robitussin and possibly watch Kung Fu Hustle with Rich, which we missed in the theater.

All told, though, today was a great day and tonight was a blast. Here’s to long holiday weekends spent with family and friends.

Neat. I just stopped by Reno 911 (love this show!) star Carlos Alazraqui‘s personal website, and in his bio he has a picture of his two dogs, one of whom looks somewhat like my own princess dog, Snoops. Only his dog isn’t overweight.
