Everybody’s Working for the Weekend (Even Me)

Song Lyric of the Day:

Cause i’ve climbed these walls to clear my head / Thought I was something more but I’m a fool instead / But it’s the simple things that make you smile / It’s the simple things that make you smile

True happiness is…

a cold winter night snuggled under a blanket with a loved one.6:32PM.
Does anyone sell 9′ unlit Christmas trees anymore? For our nice, tall living room, Rich and I would like a nice, tall tree. An unlit tree. Apparently, this year finding a 9′, artificial, unlit tree is like looking for the Holy Grail. Which means that our cats’ dreams might come true–we will probably end up getting a real tree. I’m just happy the cats are now too fat and old to fell a Christmas tree, which they did a few years ago. That was a fun night–coming home from Christmas shopping, noticing the tree was pointing at me and that my calico, Belle, was sitting about halfway in it with fully black, completely dilated eyes. Ah, holiday memories.

Rich got home from work, we watched Oprah‘s much-touted appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, and then we decided to head out to First Friday at Three Flights Up Gallery. Rich’s friend, Clark, was one of the featured artists tonight, so we wanted to be there to support him. Rich’s parents even made it out, which was great since we hadn’t seen them in a few weeks. ( To boot, they told us that we can have their buffet, which is going to become game central in our Florida room).

So we’re driving toward the gallery with me behind the wheel, all proud because I remember how to get there all on my own–having no sense of direction I have to brag when I can–when we see that a firetruck is blocking off Gay Street. Hmmm. Could the crowd for comedian and Knoxville native Henry Cho be that overwhelming for his show at the historic Tennessee Theatre? Not even close. Turns out that tonight was Knoxville’s Christmas parade. And Rich and I just happened to stumble upon it.

What’s really bizarre is that this is not the first time Rich and I have accidentally stumbled upon a Christmas parade. A couple of years ago, we decided to see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at MacArthur Center in Norfolk, VA. We’re driving into downtown Norfolk when what do we see but bumper-to-bumper traffic at an odd time of night. Turns out that that was the night of Norfolk’s Christmas parade. And Rich and I just happened to stumble upon it. Bizarre, huh?

On the family front: Mom and I are driving to Richlands, VA, in the morning to be there for Tamara and her family at her grandfather’s funeral. So I’m going to sign off now and get to bed. I need to be well-rested for the drive.
