Holiday Prep

Song Lyric of the Day:

And after awhile he calms down / And he looks at me like a prince / But I know I better bite the bullet / ‘Cause it’s just another one of his / Jedi mind tricks

Poe / “Trigger Happy Jack (Drive By a Go-Go)”

Rich and I put up some Christmas decorations last night. Our living room is now festively adorned with multi-colored strands of lights stretching from the kitchen all the way to the living room’s floor-to-ceiling picture windows. Of course, decorating and moving furniture to make a space where the tree will stand left Caleb on the verge of an anxiety attack. I don’t think we’ll ever figure out why exactly he has the neuroses he does. But at least the house is starting to look and feel Christmasy. Now we just need to pick up the tree Pappa Doug and Momma Carol are giving to us.

Now I’m trying to decide what to do with the rest of my day. I have a lot of housework to do, including tons of laundry I’ve been putting off because of the leaky laundry room situation. Rich will probably spend the rest of the day working, but I won’t have any problem keeping myself busy. After I do some housework, I’ll probably get back to work on my second children’s book–only about five more pages to write and I think it’ll be finished. Yay!

Now for a Prison Break interview alert, which will be of particular interest for East Tennessee fans of the show: Muse Watson (“Charles Westmoreland“) has an interview airing either tomorrow or Tuesday morning on WIVK’s Andy & Alison show in the morning (5:50AM-10AM); the website offers a live streaming broadcast for fans outside the area. So tune in if you can. See–told you I’d do what I could to keep interest in the show up even when it’s not on the air.

Today turned out to be very social day. Around dinner time, Rich and I headed out to his parents’ house to pick up the buffet and Christmas tree they were giving us. Pappa Doug and Momma Carol ended up following us back to our house in their van; with the buffet in the Xterra there wasn’t any room for the tree, so they brought it in the van. As if it weren’t enough they were giving us a buffet and tree, they treated us to Quizno’s for dinner on the way back. Neither one had ever eaten there, and as my love for the Classic Italian sandwich is legendary in our family, their curiosity was piqued; Doug tried the Classic Italian sandwich and really liked it (welcome to the club, Pappa Doug). We ordered our subs to go and came back to the house to eat; this way, Rich could quickly get back to his freelance work. Doug and Rich put the buffet in our Florida room, where it will now house our growing collection of games. The tree is sitting in its box on our living room floor; we’ll probably put it up tomorrow night.

After seeing Doug and Carol off, Rich went back to work and I tuned in to Cold Case, which, like every other episode I’ve ever watched, made me cry at the end (you know–when the murder victim is seen by one of the survivors or detectives; waterworks every time). Once the show ended, I tackled some laundry and general tidying up around the house.

Tamara called a little while ago to let me know she made it safely back to Morristown from Virginia; it was good to hear her voice and know she’s doing as well as can be expected at a time like this. I ended up inadvertently distracting her from her grief–which is fine by me–by mentioning the medical experiment in which Jonathan and I will be participating later this week. Long story short, the good Dr. Tamara is not amused or impressed by my plan to earn some Christmas cash as a human guinea pig. Heads up, Jonnie–expect a call in the next day or so. Ahem.

Oh thanx a lot Pattie! At least Tamara doesn’t know about the other tests I’ll be doing: They will first infect us with Hepatitis F (that’s “the new one”, they told me) and then study us for work towards a vaccine from their findings….Who’s with me???
