Live from New York…

Song Lyric of the Day:

My life is brilliant / My love is pure / I saw an angel / Of that I’m sure / She smiled at me on the subway

James Blunt / “You’re Beautiful”

10:34AM.
Rich and I arrived here in the Big Apple Thursday morning. It was like landing in Seattle–cold and rainy. We took a cab to my Aunt Bea’s apartment in The Bronx. We then promptly hopped in her car along with my three first cousins and a contractor, and headed to my cousin Rocky’s house. The purpose of the trip was to return Rocky’s kids to her after a three-day stay with Grandma, and to have the contractor, Freddie, give an estimate on a staircase repair job. Long story short, Rich and I ended up passed out on the couch since the short stay turned into two hours. We were also going on two hours’ sleep, having stayed up far too late finishing packing and messing around on our computers Wednesday night. We grabbed subs on the drive back, got back to Bea’s apartment, and ended up ordering Chinese for dinner and watcing Crash, which Rich hadn’t seen. Rich and I passed out for the night around 11:30PM.

Yesterday Rich and I started off with a typical New York breakfast–bagel loaded with cream cheese for me (enough to kill poor Curry) and a sausage and egg sandwich for him. We took the subway into the city and visited The Frick Collection museum. We were wiped out walking through the museum–it’s small, but the collection is huge. After lunch we hit the Whitney Museum. I enjoyed it, but I enjoyed the Frick more. We grabbed dinner at a really neat restaurant, Citrus, on the West Side. The restaurant’s tagline is “Latin fare, Asian flare.” I might have that backwards, though. Rich enjoyed a sushi/sashimi special, and I had angel hair pasta with turkey meatballs and chicken sausage. We walked a bit after, stopping into a used bookstore and a shoe store, among other places. Around 10PM, we decided we were too cold (read: old) to keep walking around and hopped on the train to head back to Bea’s. Bea, her fiance, Louis, and Rich and I managed to watch March of the Penguins before calling it a night; I think the movie is now my favorite documentary of all time. Very cool.

Now I’m trying to decide what Rich and I should do today–knowing how indecisive I am, he of course said today is my day to choose our daytime activities. We’re going to be in Times Square tonight to see the ball drop, despite the wet snow that is falling. So if any of my family or friends get a weird phone call right after midnight and can’t make anything out, it’s us yelling “Happy new year!”

I’ll try to update later today if I find a place with free wi-fi. In the meantime, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!

Special thanks to Curry for keeping my kitties safe, my parents for keeping Snoops safe, and my other parents for keeping Caleb safe while we’re away. It really is peace of mind to know they’re in great hands.
