Freezing in Central Park

Rich and I went to Central Park yesterday. And just about froze our a$es off. While I managed to take a lot of photos, it was far too cold for Rich to sit down and sketch, much less take off his gloves to do so. We did manage to walk the entire park, via trails within it and sidewalks outside the perimeter. The prolonged exposure to cold weather resulted in me sounding like I had a severe speech impediment since my face was half-frozen. Rich thought it was funny, of course. He had fun making fun of me as well as torturing me by singing the most annoying, infectious song he knew. If I never hear Rich sing “Doncha” by the Pussycat Dolls ever again, it’ll be too soon; he even sang it in his falsetto voice. And today wasn’t the only day he sang it, either. I’ve been retaliating by singing an equally infectious, sticks-in-your-head song from Sesame Street, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.” That’ll teach him. Warning: listen to either song at your own risk. They’ll end up stuck in your head for days.

After our long, cold trek in and around the park, Rich and I ended up exiting the park at the Time Warner Center, which we’d had no luck finding the other day. I was just happy we finally found it, even if it was by accident. After looking through all the fancy, expensive stores where we can afford to buy exactly nothing, we hit the Inside CNN store where I picked up Sex and the City T-shirts for me and my sisters, while Rich picked up a Family Guy shirt for his souvenir. Next time I’m there, I’d love to actually take the Inside CNN tour. We looked through some more stores, ending up in the Samsung Experience store. Basically, you get to play with all the Samsung products on display. We both found their laptops to be unbelievably light; very cool design, too.

After the Time Warner Center, Rich and I grabbed a mid-afternoon snack at Virgil’s BBQ. We entertained the people at the table next to ours (also tourists) with a slideshow of our just-finished visit to Central Park. We then headed back to Bea’s apartment, where we were able to relax a bit before dinner. Rich and I treated Bea to dinner at a nearby Indian restaurant, and then Bea drove us into the city to see the Off-Broadway play, Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. Rich and I were thrilled to discover that the tickets Bea had purchased for us through the Theater Development Fund ended up being in the front row. So I got to be about five feet away from a shirtless Ian Somerhalder while Rich got to drool over Eliza Dushku up close. I’ll write a review later on when I have time to do the play justice, but the bottom line is I now absolutely love Logan Marshall-Green; he’s an acting do in the making. I even got to meet him after the play, and he was just so nice and gracious when I told him how amazing I thought his performance was (eat your heart out, Samantha! I met Trey from The O.C.!). He even posed for a picture with me. Rich and I also met America Ferrara, with whom I also got a photo. She, too, is unbelievably nice and so petite I felt like a 5’8″ giant next to her.

Once my celebrity encounter meter was full, Rich and I hopped the train back home. We packed for our flight home and managed to squeeze in a two-hour nap. Sound familiar? That would be because we never learn.

Bea dropped us off at LaGuardia Airport around 3:15AM. Long story short, United Airways really, really needs to change their check-in policies. They’ll be getting a letter from me shortly.

Anyhoo, it’s great to be home. Can’t wait for our next trip to New York, which, God willing, will be in May for Bea and Louis’s wedding.
