And My Weekend Begins…Now

Song Lyric of the Day:

Workin’ so hard like a soldier

Eddy Grant / “Electric Avenue”

6:17PM.
Good lord, I’m exhausted. My first week of work went well, but it’s going to take me a few weeks to adjust to this schedule–10 hour days Monday through Thursday, with Fridays off (thank you, Jesus). So I am going to bed no later than 9:30PM to wake up at 5AM; I haven’t been able to watch any of my TV shows so far this week, which stinks. As you may have noticed, I’ve never been much of a morning person, so this is just about killing me. The sooner I adapt, the better.

As I said, my first week went well, although I could do without the 90-mile round trip drive. The majority of my week was spent learning about all the rules and regulations. As you can imagine, working for a government contractor, it’s a very strict environment. I wear about 2 pounds of identification around my neck and go through a security checkpoint (more sensitive than airports) just to get to my office every morning. The site is so large we have to be driven to other buildings. No joke. You’d think it’d be a great environment for power walking, but you’d never get to your destination on time. I wish I could wear my iPod Shuffle at work, but that’s a forbidden item. The worst thing is not being able to have my cell phone on the premises or surf news web sites during lunch (we can’t surf at all). It’s like I’ve been cut off from the outside world. A couple of days I called Rich late in the day just to have him read me the latest news headlines.

But, I have a job again and three-day weekends from now on. And for that, I am truly grateful.

Now if I could only adjust to my new sleeping schedule.
