A Gray Sunday

Overground, watch this space / I’m open to falling from grace

10:35AM.
Rich and I just woke up about 20 minutes ago. We would’ve woken up at 9AM if I hadn’t pestered him to not set the alarm for that early on a Sunday. We also would’ve woken up at 10AM on the dot if I hadn’t begged my usual “gimme a few more minutes.” And now here we are.

I’m fairly tired just from being social and doing home improvement this weekend, both things which are relegated to Thursday night through Sunday afternoon now on account of my work sleep schedule. A brief recaplet of the weekend so far:

Friday night Rich and I met up with Tamara and Cynthia at Ginza Japan. I had hibachi, of course, while Rich, Tamara, and Cynthia had sushi. After dinner we hit the Barnes & Noble up the street. I treated myself to my first new new book in several months, Lovers & Players by Jackie Collins. (Don’t judge me. I’ll cut you). We enjoyed finally getting to meet Cynthia, who we found to be a funny, kindred geek spirit; Rich actually high-fived her when she told him how much she loves Neil Gaiman.

The early part of yesterday was devoted to home improvement, primarily sanding and spackling. Late afternoon, we decided on alone time so I met up with my sister-in-law, Shauen, for the 5:50PM showing of The Hills Have Eyes. I have to admit I’ve never seen the original (which I now need to rent), but the new version was scary and gory as hell, which was not surprising since the director, Alexandre Aja, also directed the fantastically gory Haute Tension (High Tension). I lost track of how many times Shauen and I jumped, not to mention how many times I semi-covered my eyes. I do have to say, though, that between this and Wolf Creek, I don’t think I’ll ever take a vacation that requires a significant amount of driving through the desert. Ever.

After a light, late dinner at Panera Bread, I said goodnight to Shauen and headed home. And now here I am. Ready for more home improvement as well as tackling the Financial Peace University kit Jonnie and Curry lent us. Hopefully I’ll get to see them at some point next week. I also really need to get together with Benjamin and give him some papers I typed up for him. (I haven’t forgotten about you, B!)

BTW, I added a new feature to my blog, an email link. I’m just curious to see if anyone who reads it, whom I don’t know, sends me a note. Read: family and friends who have my original email keep writing to me at that address. I’m running an experiment here. Don’t make me add you to the spam email list.

Now let’s see how many times I have to mention someone like Wentworth Miller, Enrique Murciano, or, say, Sandra Bullock (love her!) to get a response or cease-and-desist notice.

The die has been cast. And now I wait…

Before I forget, let me add how hot the hubby is looking lately. All those workouts are really paying off. Rowr. Who loves ya, baby?

11:25AM.
I forgot to congratulate my almost brother-in-law, Shawn, on getting a couple more donations for our Relay for Life team. If you’d like to donate or join the team (if you’re local), click on one of the links under my profile pic and link.

Funny story about Alex Aja. I caught Haute Tension at Toronto 2 years ago and during the Q&A with the director I asked him if he telegraphed the twist at the ending throughout the film kind of the way Shymalan did with sixth sense. You know dropping little clues throughout the film that you could find on subsequent viewings. He responded by saying “Great question, I didn’t really think about it while filming. Did you guys catch anything?” It was a decent flick though.
