My cat niece, Sasha, passed away this morning. She was tiny for her age, but, boy, she was a little spitfire. She put up a very, very brave fight against cancer, but it proved to be too much for her little body. I have to say, she was one of my favorite cat nieces. Whenever I’d go to Samantha’s house, there Sasha would be, quietly sitting in a corner, taking everything in. She’d stand as I approached, knowing I was going to pick her up and cuddle her to my chest. She especially liked being kissed on the top of her head, angling it to be sure you’d land a smacker right on her forehead. While sweet beyond belief, she’d occasionally give me such a stink eye that I would be convinced she was going to smack my face off (thankfully, she never did). I’m crushed that she is gone, but I am comforted knowing that thanks to Samantha, the last few years of Sasha’s life were happy ones and she knew she was very much loved (and more than a bit spoiled). I hope Samantha finds comfort in knowing that whenever she’s sad and misses her special little cat.
