Down to the Wire

Song Lyric of the Day:

Still undiscovered / But you must see me in the corner of your eye / And now I’m ready / And now I’m ready / And now I’m ready to be / Extraordinary

One more day until the Relay for Life! This time tomorrow, I’ll be down at World’s Fair Park, setting up our campsite. And, due to the incredible heat, awaiting the moment when at long last I finally burst into flames in a rare instance of spontaneous human combustion. (Seriously — you’d think I was going through menopause with these hot flashes I’ve had of late; combined with 90+ degree heat almost daily, I always feel like I’m roasting. Rich has even taken to calling me a furnace since I put so much heat out. Pantsless Pattie came back with a vengeance a few weeks ago.)

Thanks to the amazing generosity and, most important, support of my family and friends, I’m only $40 short of reaching my fundraising goal for this year’s Relay for Life. So if you can, help me meet my goal. Or donate to the general team fund and help us meet our overall goal. Thanks for your support!

Since writing the other day about wanting to get back into shape, I’ve managed to pretty consistently exercise. The only time I slacked off was our weekend in Virginia, when neither of us could find the time to squeeze in any exercise. Although we very happily traded time spent on fitness for time spent with our much-missed friends. But save for those few days, I’ve been pretty faithful to my exercise routine. My after-work routine now consists of: biking 2.5 miles a night (on our stationary bike); 125 crunches; 125 leg lifts; 25 squats and/or 25 calf raises holding two 10-pound dumbbells; and a rotation of upper body weightlifting exercises with either the five- or 10-pound dumbbells. Am I noticing any progress? Thankfully, yes. I’m starting to see more definition in my stomach (except for that cursed wasteland right under my belly button — you know the one I’m talking about). My triceps are starting to really pop out again, my biceps are waking up, and my legs are looking a bit better. So do I fit in those awesome low-rise Levi’s again? Uh, not quite yet. But my weight is holding steady; just a few more pounds to go.

That’s the great thing about the walk tomorrow night — tons of cardio in the name of fundraising. Can’t beat that.

My writing class was fun. That ever-elusive proverbial match is once again lit under my ass. Now the trick is to keep it lit.

I’m making myself go into relaxation mode right now. I’ll worry about my pre-Relay freakout tomorrow morning when I wake up. For now, I’ll enjoy the last downtime I’ll have until I wake up Saturday afternoon from my post-Relay nap. The hubby’s upstairs watching anime, so I’m downstairs getting ready to watch Devour. Sure, it may turn out to be as bad as what I’ve read online, but if I could make it all the way through Zombi 2, this will probably seem like an Oscar-worthy movie in comparison. Besides, it’s got a certain FSH© in it, so I’ll enjoy it regardless.
