My Happy for the Day: “Titanium”

Through the spouse, I was introduced to David Guetta‘s music. While I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve heard by him, my favorite of his songs has to be “Titanium,” which features Sia. There are a lot of interpretations out there as to the song’s meaning — that it’s about standing up to an abusive spouse, coping with verbal abuse, and being bullied. No matter how you interpret it, I interpret it as saying that it will take a lot to knock me down and that I’m stronger than others (and even I) realize. However you interpret it, I think it’s a pretty kick-ass song.

My Happy for the Day: "The Show"

This is one of my new insta-happy songs, “The Show” by Lenka. Happy lyrics? Check. Adorable singer? Check. Smiling tomato puppets and happy bluebird puppets? Check and check. There’s something that’s just fun about Lenka literally floating and flying through different scenarios, seemingly with girl-next-door superpowers, while singing optimistically about finding her way in life that picks me up whenever I’m feeling down.

My Happy for the Day: "Say Hey (I Love You)"

I first heard this song a few months ago on WFIV 105.3 and never heard the DJ announce who the song was by or even what it was called. Enter Google search, which led me to Michael Franti & Spearhead. This song makes me happy every single time I hear it. I’ve also enjoyed discovering more of the group’s music, including the single “Yell Fire,” currently being used as part of FX’s awesome Rescue Me season five promo. I hope this song puts a smile on your face the way it does mine.

The VLA’s "When I Am Through With You" — for Download!

I’ve ragged on MySpace before, but I will give it credit where it’s due: Were it not for MySpace, I never would’ve been able to contact the very accommodating Jason Rabe, lead singer for the VLA, to get the complete lyrics to their song, “When I Am Through With You.” Since the song is currently best-known as the theme song for Damages (which I love), people from all over are always landing on my blog looking for the lyrics (which I posted several months ago).

Lately I’ve also gotten some e-mails from people asking if I know where they can download the song (I’m not sure how well MySpace’s download function works), so I once again contacted Jason. Lo and behold, he sent me an MP3. He told me to enjoy blogging it, sharing it, posting it. So here it is. Enjoy listening to and sharing the song. When I Am Through With YouThe VLA

I made a point of using the song “When I Am Through With You” by The VLA for my Song Lyric of the Day yesterday since I was writing about summer TV, and it’s the theme song for Damages on FX. After a long Google search, I kept coming up empty and could only find a couple of lines. So what to do? Go directly to the source: I sent an email via MySpace to the band, and they were awesome enough to reply with the lyrics. So here they are, exactly as they were sent to me:
