Sunday Day of Non-Rest

Song Lyric of the Day:

And I just can’t wait till the day when you knock on my door / Now everytime I go for the mailbox gotta hold myself down / Cause I just can’t wait till you write me you’re comin’ around

Yay! My guy comes home today. Not that I’ve had trouble holding down the fort, caring for our six babies, and staying busy while he’s been gone. I even handled the garage door mini-crisis (to my neurotic mind) quite well, if I say so myself. But I have missed having Rich around. If he makes good time, he should be home by 10PM. I’m making Szechuan-Italian chicken and baby spinach salad for dinner tonight, so he can have any leftovers if he’s hungry when he gets home.

After getting home from the library yesterday, I tidied up some more and gave the kitchen a good deep cleaning. I don’t know how only two people can make such a mess, but Rich and I are gifted in the way of trashing our own kitchen.

Joan came over bearing Atlas Pizza last night around 7PM. After dishing up we sat down to watch “Sex and the City.” We’re 2/3 of the way through season 3. I actually saw a couple of episodes I’d missed in their initial run on HBO. Don’t know how that happened. Joan and I had fun talking in between, during, and after the show. Since it was a yucky night out, Joan stayed over in our guest room/my office/Caleb and Snoops’ room. Caleb was a bit displaced, but I think what bothered him most is that Joan slept with the door closed; he would have loved to sleep on the bed with her. But it is only a twin bed, after all.

After Joan left this morning, I headed out for brunch with Kathy and Kristen. We met at The Painted Lady in Norfolk. Kristen suggested it as it’s a girly-type place (think tea room), and she was right in that the atmosphere and setting was right up our alley. I had a lot of fun catching up with both of them as it seems the older we all get, the busier we get, and the less time we have to just hang with our friends. Kristen is always keeping busy, which I admire since she’s always very creative in everything she does. She’s like a non-evil Martha Stewart whose home decorating style I would love to steal. And Kathy (also very creative) now has a beautiful two-month old daughter and two older, equally beautiful kids, so you can imagine how busy she’s been. Although Christian is a good hands-on dad who helps out. Brunch lasted a couple of hours, after which we ended up talking a while longer in the parking lot before finally taking our leave.

I made my way to PetSmart to pick up cat litter and Finn’s special diet food. I then swung by Barnes & Noble where I was disappointed to see that all of the bargain hardcover copies of The Face by Dean Koontz were tattered. So I held off on buying a copy–just because I don’t spend a lot of money on my book collection doesn’t mean I will settle for a less than perfect copy. Better luck next time. After hitting the Harris Teeter next door to pick up tonight’s dinner, I made my way home.

Caleb was thrilled to play frisbee once more after missing out yesterday due to the nasty weather. Right now he and Snoops are working on ham bones that Rich and I keep in the freezer for them. Snoops is enjoying hers outside, as is her custom. Caleb is in my office (his room) on a towel. And now I’m going to go tidy up some more.

See? Told you I didn’t have a problem keeping busy.

Wow. “The Pacifier” is the number one movie in the country for the weekend. It made $30.2 million. Didn’t see that one coming.
