McKay’s, How I Love Thee

Song Lyric of the Day:

How can you have a day without a night / You’re the book that I have opened / And now I’ve got to know much more

God, I love going to McKay’s! I especially love being able to go to McKay’s more than twice a year now that we’ve moved home. For newbies, McKay’s Books & CDs is our local used bookstore mecca. They not only sell used books, but also used CDs, DVDs, VHS, computer games, X Box games, PS2 games….you get the drift. The store recently moved into a warehouse because it’s gotten so big. The true beauty is that you can buy, sell, or trade anything. So Rich and I took a break from working today (we both work from home now) and first went to Jerry’s Artarama so Rich could pick up some more textured pastel paper and a new portfolio. After finishing up there, we headed for McKay’s, armed with 6 or 7 CDs to trade in. Today was a productive day there since we each found some CDs:

We also found a couple of books: Drawings of the Masters for Rich ($5.00–a great find since it was published in 1965) and Sleeping Beauty by Phillip Margolin for me ($2.00). Keep in mind that both books are hardcovers in mint condition. We went to check out and I pulled out our newest trade credit voucher along with two others we have from previous book and VHS trade-ins. After our trade credits were applied, we only had to pay $17.00. Not too shabby. We could’ve waited to find some of the CDs at a later date for a bit less, but our goal today was to spend some trade credit. We even still have about $80.00 in blue trade credit, to boot. Blue trade credit is good on books, VHS, and games. Yellow trade credit is good on DVDs and CDs.

Some of my other recent finds, all hardcovers:

I was particularly happy to find The Corrections without the Oprah Book Club seal on it; I think Franzen was right on that count. So not only have I added to our hardcover collections of certain authors (Koontz, Gerritsen, Johansen, King), but I have picked up books by new authors for less than what I’d pay for the paperback editions.

It’s great to be home. Now if Rich and I could just shake these blasted colds/sinus infections.
