A New Era

Song Lyric of the Day:

I don’t want to be anything other than what I’ve been trying to be lately / All I have to do is think of me and have peace of mind / I’m tired of looking ’round rooms wondering what I gotta do / Or who I’m supposed to be / I don’t want to be anything other than me

My wonderful husband, the great provider, is at the office on his first official day of work. I just wanted to tell him good luck and I know he’ll do great, since he always does. His talent and drive are what got him hired in the first place. I’d also like to thank him for letting me stay unemployed for a bit longer. (Not that I’ve had any luck with the job search). We’ve struck a good balance right now where I keep things humming along on the home front and he brings in the paychecks. I’ll continue to milk it for as long as it’s feasible, either until I get that great new job with a great company or I crack and head over to Barnes & Noble once again.

On Monday Rich and I started doing cardio again on our recumbent air bike. We also started doing some sit ups, leg lifts, and crunches, too. It feels good to start exercising again. It’s so hard to work up the motivation to get in shape, but it takes absolutely nothing to get out of shape. We’ve decided we don’t want to get fat throughout the winter only to have to haul a$$ to get in shape in time for spring and summer. In support of our fitness goals, my next big house project is to finish unpacking the few boxes we have left in the Florida room so we can get it emptied out. Once the room is empty, we can lay down a new concrete floor. Once our new floor is finished, we can bring our exercise equipment back to our house; it’s at Justin and Shauen’s house up the street. Once we have our home gym set up again–voilà! We can get back to the shape we were in before moving back to Tennessee.

I’m so sore right now. In addition to my cardio biking, leg lifts, and stomach crunches earlier today, I took four garbage bags of paper to the recycling center, played frisbee with Caleb (always a challenge), and spent about an hour tonight pruning the giant rose bush in our back yard. You know what you get when you try to follow a fitness regimen, keep your dog happy, and be productive around the house? Body aches, that’s what.

Our sister-in-law, Shauen, popped by right when I was finishing up with the rose bush. She was walking her dog, Akasha, and Akasha dragged her up our driveway to say hi to her cousin, Caleb. The dogs had a fun kissfest that lasted the entire time Rich, Shauen, and I were talking. We mostly discussed next week’s Halloween party at her and Justin’s house up the street, which Rich and I are really looking forward to attending.

Rich was nice enough to pick dinner up at our local Ruby Tuesday restaurant so I could grab a shower after my foray into yard work. We watched last night’s episode of “My Name is Earl” while we ate. I gotta say, I think this show is getting funnier each week. It’s more than earned its place on our Tivo Season Pass list.

I forgot to mention that Ken, my future brother-in-law, called earlier today to get our address here. He jokingly asked if I was decently dressed and I said that no, I wasn’t. I think he thought I was kidding. I wasn’t.
