Everything But the Bathroom Sink

Song Lyric of the Day:

Hey girls / hey boys / Superstar djs / Here we go

The Chemical Brothers / “Hey Boy Hey Girl”

2:02PM.
I went to the recycling center today since Rich and I had a ton of bottles, plastic, and cans that were taking up way too much space in the kitchen. As I drove, I listened to my latest iTunes CD creation, which I simply call “Driving Music.” I should change the name to “Speeding Music,” though, since that’s what inevitably happens when I listen to it while driving. The songs are primarily techno with a few hard, alternative rock songs thrown in:

  1. Ready Steady Go” – Paul Oakenfold
  2. Red Tape” – Agent Provocateur
  3. Blue Monday” – Orgy
  4. (Can’t You) Trip Like I Do” – Crystal Method & Filter
  5. Hey Boy Hey Girl” – The Chemical Brothers
  6. Under the Gun” – Supreme Beings of Leisure
  7. Starry Eyed Surprise” – Paul Oakenfold
  8. Hysteria” – Muse
  9. Club Foot (Video Edit)” – Kasabian
  10. Right Here, Right Now” – Fatboy Slim

Way back in the day (ie: high school) I used to listen to mostly pop-centric, R&B, and hip-hop music. As my high school days came to a close, I found myself listening to grunge and alternative rock, like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Stone Temple Pilots. I was lucky in that I got to see the latter two groups in concert; my sister, Vanessa, actually won the STP concert tix off a radio contest.

Since then, I’ve stuck with alternative/hard rock and embraced techno (thanks to Rich); I don’t imagine I’ll ever really go back to listening to straight up pop music again. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. I like to imagine that if Rich and I ever have a kid, it’ll be exposed to the music we both like at an early age. Maybe there’ll be a “Linkin Park for Babies” by then; that would be cool.

Now I’m off to remove our lovely goldenrod pedestal sink from the half bathroom. I’m determined to finish painting the bathroom by week’s end, and the sink and matching goldenrod toilet are holding me up. Here’s to home improvement.

4:09PM.
So it turns out I don’t quite have the muscle necessary to unscrew the plumbing fixtures from the half bathroom sink. I did manage to disconnect a few things, but not the biggies. I need Rich’s he-man strength for that. I instead focused my efforts on looking for and applying to some jobs. We’ll see if anything comes of it.

It’s very overcast here right now; it looks and feels like a dreary winter day. To that end, I had some mood music on in the form of Hotel by Moby. Hotel has become my favorite of Moby’s albums, closely followed by 18 and Play. I think I love Hotel so much because Moby’s lyrics are so much stronger, introspective, and emotional on this album. In particular, I love “Dream About Me,” “Where You End,” and “Raining Again.” The order of the songs also creates a wonderful flow throughout the album. Hotel is that rare album that I (and Rich) can listen to straight through, from beginning to end, and want to listen to it again as soon as it’s over.

9:48PM.
I’m killing time until “Nip/Tuck” starts at 10. Rich has been plugging away doing freelance work tonight (keeping a roof over my head) so we have not yet watched tonight’s episodes of “My Name is Earl” or “The Office.” I’m thinking tomorrow night maybe we can go out to or watch a movie since “Lost” and “Veronica Mars” are both repeats.

Tomorrow I need to burn more shows to DVD and continue clearing out our monster Tivo Now Playing list. Of course, a big chunk of that is “CSI” and “Bones” episodes for Samantha (and “7th Heaven”–don’t get me started on that one), “Router Workshop” episodes for Rich, and all the episodes to date of “Prison Break” for yours truly. Speaking of, how great was last night’s episode, “Tweener?” (The glorious opening shower scene aside, that is). I love how the writers keep upping the ante for everyone involved. LJ’s journey to Veronica was truly harrowing, Abruzzi’s fall from power damaged the escape plan, Lincoln was worried sick about LJ (loved his message to his dad), and Dr. Tancredi (and the audience) learned more about Michael’s psychological state. It was also great to see Michael stand up to T-Bag and, better yet, for T-Bag to actually heed the warning. Robert Knepper is officially my new favorite bad guy on TV–I love to hate him. He’s such a good bad guy that I hope they keep him around to continue creating conflict among the wannabe escapees. Then, of course, there’s the danger he poses to the U.S. population in general–he doesn’t ever need to set foot outside the prison walls. Here’s hoping next week’s episode features Westmoreland again; he was missed last night.

It’s 10PM now–time to go and watch my favorite Miami-based plastic surgeons go to work.
