Snowy Sunday Shopping

Song Lyric of the Day:

You know that we are living in a material world / And I am a material girl

Madonna / “Material Girl”

10:28PM.
After once again reaching the nadir of laziness yesterday and barely moving off the couch (I blame the snow), today I actually got dressed and left the house. What could get me out of the house when it’s freezing cold and snowing off-and-on? Shopping with my sister, Samantha.

I met up with Sam at David’s Bridal where she was picking up her bridesmaid’s dress for our sister, Vanessa’s, fast-approaching March wedding. (Incidentally, Samantha enjoyed flaunting her new, upgraded engagement ring from Shawn. Spoiled wench). From there we headed to Chili’s for a late-ish lunch and then the mall. I treated myself to a couple of lip balms and body wash at Bath & Body Works, courtesy of the gift card Tamara gave me for Christmas. Then Sam and I headed over to New York & Company where she managed to get some great clearance deals while I restrained my unemployed ass and didn’t buy anything. We hit Kohl’s next, where I scored some great deals: a $7 pair of Levi’s low-rise flare jeans, $7 for another pair of low-rise jeans, and $12 for a reversible leather belt to accessorize the new jeans. After tax, I only ended up spending $4 and change over the $30 gift card I got from Momma Carol and Papa Doug for Christmas. Ah, I love the smell of a clearance sale in the afternoon.

Other recent gift card purchases include The Office Season 1 DVD and Switch by INXS. While I’d only heard snippets of each song from Switch online, the album as a whole is really great; I’ve already listened to it about six times since picking it up on Friday. Some of the standouts include “Devil’s Party,” “Pretty Vegas,” and “Perfect Strangers,” but the whole album really clicks. Andrew Farriss has songwriting credit on most, if not all, of the songs, making this an impressive first album with new lead singer, JD Fortune. While I definitely had reservations about the band continuing on after losing Michael Hutchence, listening to Switch makes me really happy that they did. Because if there’s one thing the album proves, it’s that songwriter Farriss still has plenty of good songs to share and the band can still rock.
