Friday Runaround

Song Lyric of the Day:

Well my heart knows me better than i know myself /So i’m gonna let it do all the talking / (Woo-hoo, woo-hoo)

KT Tunstall / “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”

1:32PM.
I’ve had an eventful day so far. Went to PetSmart, loaded up on kitty provisions, scheduled a grooming appointment for Snoops, wished I could take the three dogs in the adoption pen home with me, saved money with my PetPerks card. I then went to Chili’s to pick up lunch for me and mom; I met her at the theater where we ate together.

Mom and I had a good heart-to-heart, and I ended up crying about my grandmother again when I told her how Tuesday’s episode of Scrubs, “My Five Stages (of Grief),” brought her death back all over again for me. Mom cried, too, as she consoled me and told me how Abuela Maria didn’t suffer and how that was a blessing; she also said that she was happy she could honestly say she had loved her mother-in-law. Rich likes to say I can go from zero to hysterical in about five seconds flat, and he’s right. I’m better now, but I imagine I’ll continue to have these kinds of episodes for a while. The last moment like that was at the Coldplay concert on February 23, when Chris Martin changed the lyric “Tears stream, down your face / When you lose something you cannot replace” to “Tears stream, down your face / When you lose someone you cannot replace.” It’s amazing how changing that one little word left me momentarily emotionally blindsided. Rich said he was actually surprised I didn’t burst into tears on the spot; to be honest, I’m surprised I didn’t, too.

Much cheered up by the time I left the theater, I dropped in on my ex-boss, Phil. Phil was always more of a friend–actually, a lot more so–than a boss. We had fun catching up for about a half hour before he had to get back to work and I had to get home to pick up Snoops for her grooming appointment.

And now I will head out with my fur-molting dog into the beautiful, sunshiny day we are having here in Knoxville. A perfectly breezy, 72-degree day. It’s days like today that really remind me why I love East Tennessee.

5:11PM.
Caleb and I just got back from a nice neighborhood walk. It turns out that the growth formula puppy food Rich and I have been feeding him not only helped him gain back some weight he’d lost, but a few extra pounds that now make his harness too tight. Something else to pick up at the pet store.

I took Caleb for a walk to keep his mind off the fact that big sis is not here right now; he’s now passed out on the living room floor. I dropped Snoops off at the groomers’ at 2:30, feeling horribly guilty when she started trembling and trying to will the door to open so she could make a run for it. After handing her over, I headed to the Borders next door to browse (sooooo many new books I want), bought a nice frame on clearance for $3.99 in Kirklands, then headed to Kohl’s a few storefronts down to check out their sales. I once again struck pay dirt with a $3.50 pair of Sonoma brand jeans, two stretch tees in different colors ($7.99 each), and a light sweater on sale for $16.99. Not too shabby.

I then went by Rich’s office to trade cars so he can take the Xterra to pick Snoops up at 6:30PM. I don’t know if I’ve said this before, but his car kicks ass. The Tiburon is a blast to drive. A little too fun, since I end up doing 80MPH when I think I’m going 60MPH. Fortunately, the two motorcycle cops I saw earlier were no longer staked out on the highway shoulder. Lucky moi.

Honestly, if I had a sports car, we’d have enough speeding tickets to wallpaper our house in no time flat. This would not be a good thing.

10:47PM.
Oh, dear God. I just made a mess trying to hock up a loogie. I’m not good at it like Rich is. This is what you get with sinus problems, folks.
