Halloween Weekend Continues

Song Lyric of the Day:

I travel the world / And the seven seas– / Everybody’s looking for something

Eurythmics / “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)”

12:20PM.
Another late night last night. I got home from Justin and Shauen’s Halloween party at 2AM. Good thing they live a few houses up the street. I’m heading out to see “Beetlejuice” now, but I’ll update later today about the party (including a most wonderful gay couple I met), breakfast at IHOP

7:30PM.
So…very…tired. Need to veg a little more…and…rally the strength to update. If I can manage it, I’ll upload pics of me and Rich in costume. We looked pretty cool, if I say so myself.

10:12PM.
Justin and Shauen’s party Saturday night was great. R
ich went as a martial arts master (who I occasionally introduced as “Feng Shui”); I drew the Chinese character for wisdom on his neck. At least, according to the tissue box cover we have from which I copied it, it’s wisdom. I went as Selene from “Underworld,” complete with fangs. Halloween is the only time of year it’s truly socially acceptable for me to wear a skintight, full-body, PVC vinyl catsuit. Outside of somewhere like New York City or Las Vegas, that is.

I had gone to dinner at Johnny Carino’s with Mom, Dad, Samantha, and Shawn prior to the party. Dinner was great, of course, even though Rich couldn’t make it. I love getting together with my family. And, lord, I ate so much (bread, Italian nachos, Caesar salad, Skilletini).

Rich had gone over early to help Justin and Shauen with setting up. I called Rich on my way back to our house so he could meet me at home and I could draw the tattoo on his neck. Once at the party, we set about mingling and got to meet a bunch of nice, cool people. My favorites were a gay couple, Jim and Steve, who have been together longer than anyone I know, besides my parents, in-laws, and Rich’s grandparents. I had a blast talking with both of them, especially with Jim; I could’ve kept on talking to him until the cows came home. And I’ve said this before but now I’ll say it again: nothing is better for your self-esteem than being told you’re hot by gay men. Seriously. I highly recommend it.We had fun mingling with Lee (who came as Sid Vicious, complete with a stuffed crotch), Scott, Jim, George, and too many other people to name. Justin’s family was also there, including his mother, brother, and sister. It turns out April, Justin’s sister, has been reading Tarot cards since she was 12. She spent the whole night giving readings. I finally got up the nerve around midnight to have her read my cards. It took a lot for me to work up to that, since (1) I was raised Catholic and (2) I’ve always been incredibly superstitious about messing around with stuff like that. But it turns out Justin was right–April was the right person to introduce me to Tarot. The fact that she was dead on about everything in my life right now didn’t hurt, either. My cards spelled out the big change in my life (getting laid off), the job I recently applied for that I would really, really like (she got the industry right), and how I am happy about reconnecting with my family and friends (the move home). What meant the most to me was how she pegged my relationship with Rich. She said that we’ve moved beyond the lovey-dovey stage and are at a place now where everything with us is just intuitive; we know each other as soulmates and instinctively know what the other will like (or not), will want, will feel. So that was very cool. And now I know that I will not be struck down by lightning for getting a Tarot card reading. Take that, Catholic church! Ha!

I got home around 2AM and proceeded to scare Caleb with my squeaky costume; you can see him in the photo above warily eyeing my big boots, which also scared him. I got ready for bed and settled in to watch a little “Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives” while I waited for my sleep medication to kick in. No sooner had I finally dozed off than I was awakened by Rich ringing the doorbell to be let in; I’d put the chain on and he couldn’t get in the house.

I woke up around 9AM so I could meet Brent, Mom, Samantha, and Shawn at IHOP for breakfast and spend a bit more time with Brent before he headed home to Clarksville. Rich stayed behind to sleep in a bit more, and to prep his artwork and artist’s statement to be dropped off at Three Flights Up Gallery in anticipation of this Friday night’s show.

Samantha, Shawn, and I met up again around 1:30PM at the Tennessee Theatre to see the special Halloween showing of “Beetlejuice.” Rich ended up calling me on my cell to ask me to buy him a ticket since he was done at the gallery n
earby. The movie was fun and the theater is so incredibly beautiful now; it was recently renovated and restored to its former glory. We even got a special Halloween treat: before the movie started an organ rose through the floor as the Phantom of the Opera played. Too neat.

Rich and I vegged out all evening. We just didn’t have anything left in us to do much of anything else by that point.

And that was our Halloween weekend.
